Demineralised Water Supply

Purity you can trust. We provide high-quality demineralised water (also known as DI water) for critical industrial and commercial applications across the UK. With reliable delivery and nationwide coverage, our bulk demineralised water supply ensures purity, compliance, and performance where it matters most.

Nationwide DI Water Delivery with Guaranteed Purity

Our dedicated tanker fleet is specially designed to deliver ultra-pure demineralised water. Each tanker is pre-rinsed with demineralised water before every load to eliminate residual chlorine and protect water quality.

We offer:
Fast, reliable, nationwide DI water delivery
Flexible bulk supply volumes
Consistent water quality that meets industry specifications
Professional service tailored for industrial and commercial use

As trusted demineralised water suppliers in the UK, we support sectors where water purity is critical to operational success.

What is Demineralised Water

What is Demineralised Water?

Demineralised water is mains water that has undergone purification to remove ionic impurities. It is also referred to as DI water (deionised water). At Water Direct, we use a precise ion exchange water treatment method that works as follows:

  • Cations (positively charged ions) such as sodium, iron, calcium, and copper being exchanged for hydrogen.
  • Anions (negatively charged ions) such as sulfate and chloride being exchanged for hydroxyl.

The result is ultra-pure demineralised water, free of ionic contaminants.

Other methods for producing demineralised water include Reverse Osmosis (RO) and distillation.

Using Demineralised Water

Common Uses of Demineralised Water

Storing Demineralised Water

Common Uses of Demineralised Water

Our bulk DI water is used across industries where mineral-free water is essential to avoid contamination or process disruption. Common applications include:

  • Laboratory applications (e.g., autoclaves and testing)
  • Automotive cooling systems
  • Lead-acid vehicle batteries
  • Laser cutting
  • Steam irons
  • Aquariums
  • Humidifiers
  • Cosmetics (where “aqua” on ingredient lists often refers to demineralised water)
  • Fine-mist fire-fighting equipment
  • Aircraft engine cooling systems
  • Commercial window cleaning

In electronics, DI water is used due to its low electrical conductivity, while in the pharmaceutical industry, it’s a critical ingredient in product formulations.

Once delivered by our water tankers, demineralised water should be used immediately in production or transferred to a suitable storage tank.

Because demineralised water has had most of its ions removed, it tends to “attack” the material of the storage container to regain ions.

Recommended storage materials include:

  • Stainless steel
  • Glass
  • High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE)

Avoid PVC tanks for prolonged storage, especially if the water is heated, as they may leach substances into the water over time.
