As an organisation that delivers more than 19 million bottles of water to businesses and households across the UK every year, Water Direct has a mission to ensure we are committed to sustainability and continual investment in recyclable solutions.
Supporting a sustainable future
The majority of our bottled water is supplied to household customers in two-litre bottles on behalf of water utility companies supporting their customers during water outages.
When you consider that we supplied more than 19 million bottles of water in 2022, we want to minimise the environmental impact through the use of recycled and recyclable products.
Last year, the UK Plastics Pact set out several goals for businesses to achieve by 2025, including for ‘100% of plastic packaging to be reusable, recyclable, or compostable’ and for ‘an average of 30% recycled content across all plastic packaging’. Many of the UK’s leading brands have already committed to the UK Plastics Pact, leading to a step-change shift in packaging standards.
At Water Direct we are proud to say we are ahead of the curve, only using bottles that are 100% recyclable and produced with a minimum of 50% recycled plastic. We are committed to helping our customers achieve their environmental goals and we are continually innovating our bottled water solutions to minimise our environmental footprint.
Here is a refresher on the plastic-free alternatives available from Water Direct for single use water supply, and what makes them stand out for all the right reasons.
- Aluminium is an exceptional material for recycling. It can be recycled endlessly without losing its properties. CanO Water cans consist of a minimum of 70% recycled material. After use, the can continues its cycle of recycling and reuse. Choose between re-sealing with small plastic caps or going 100% plastic-free with aluminium ring pulls.
- Popular in the events industry, our 1,000-litre Aqube, provides a supply of drinking water in a 100% recyclable container. Once the water inside has been used, the Aqube simply folds down ready to be recycled locally, without the need for transport to collect after use, further reducing its carbon footprint. Water Direct also has a complete Event Recycling Kit for event organisers to collect and bag plastic waste for recycling
- Aquapax Water Cartons bring an impressive level of innovation. Crafted from at least 75% plant-based materials, including FSC Certified paper and a cap made from renewable sugar cane. Not only are they leak-proof and refillable, but these cartons are also 100% recyclable.
