We are honoured to have been awarded the Future Water Association ‘People’ Award today at the awards lunch held at Warwick Golf Club.
Following a great year of growth, emergency water supply company Water Direct has been awarded the ‘People’ Award, thanks to the hard work and dedication demonstrated by our team.
Over the last 22 years, Water Direct has grown from a visionary idea by founder Keith Silcock into a trusted national partner to the majority of water utility wholesalers and retailers across the UK.
None of this would have been achievable without the people who contribute to the day to day operations of the business every single day of the year.
The most recent demonstration of our team going above and beyond their call of duty occurred during the recent ‘big freeze’ and subsequent rapid thaw during March 2018’ following ‘The Beast from the East’ and Storm Emma which together covered large parts of the UK in snow and ice.
The sudden change in temperature lead to numerous water companies in England experiencing multiple pipe bursts across their networks, which resulted in thousands of residential and business customers losing their water supply altogether. This included hospitals, schools and vulnerable customers including those with medical needs and the elderly in need of an emergency water supply.
This presented a unique challenge and our operational team, drivers, technicians, transport, fleet and duty teams worked around the clock with our sales and marketing, accounts, bottled water, contract and management teams to meet the unprecedented demand.
It was a case of all hands on deck with long days (and nights) in the office and required support from a number of our 3rd party hauliers who assisted with the deployment of bottled water. During the course of this one week we:
- Supported 8 regional water wholesalers and 5 national water retailers during this national water crisis
- Arranged delivery of 4 million litres of bottled drinking water; enough to provide 10l emergency drinking water to 66,000 people every day
- Mobilised more than 200 truckloads of drinking water and pumped over 7 million litres of water from our tanker
We would like to the thank the Future Water Association for recognising the efforts of our team and of course all of our staff and their contributions day in and day out!
Thank you!
