Water Supplies for Water Utilities
Water Direct started out in life as a “back up” water supplier to the water utility companies. Initially only providing bottled water in the event of a mains supply loss, but then quickly growing to provide many of the UK’s water companies with water tanker support, provision of quality assured water to vulnerable clients and hospitals.
To some of our utility clients we represent a portion of their emergency plan, to others we are their contingency plan, providing them with a complete service incorporating the deployment of an emergency water supply in the form of bottled water to their clients doorstep, pressurising of mains and filling of reservoirs with our dedicated drinking water tanker fleet, together with deployment (and subsequent filling of) water tanks to the streets of an affected area.
Water loss and contamination incidents are a daily occurrence somewhere in the UK, although they are generally not of sufficient size to warrant media attention. In the summer of 2007 Water Direct provided Severn Trent with assistance with their incident in the Gloucester and Tewkesbury areas. We provided clean wholesome water to hospitals and residential care homes on Severn Trent’s behalf, along with providing millions of litres of bottled water, and 10% of all the water tanks deployed to the streets.
All of our water utility clients are members of the Nationwide Bottled Water Bank that Water Direct operates on behalf of the industry along with some large commercial clients.
We are able to offer a full digital mapping deployment planning service together with the management of appropriate assets such as water tankers and water tanks not to mention bottled water, for water utilities through our partnership with IMASS.
