WaterTight Launches
Helping UK businesses withstand rising water disruption risk
Water Direct launches WaterTight – helping UK businesses withstand rising water disruption risk.
Our new report “The State of Water Resilience in the UK” calls on boards to treat water resilience as a core business continuity priority
WaterTight is our flagship water resilience solution, designed to help organisations maintain operations and recover quickly when water supply interruptions occur.
For boards and leadership teams, the question is shifting from ‘could this happen?’ to ‘what is our exposure, and how quickly can we recover?’ WaterTight is designed to turn that question into a practical plan – so organisations can manage disruption with confidence.
The launch coincides with the publication of our new report, The State of Water Resilience in the UK, which sets out evidence of rising disruption risk and associated consequences for organisations where water is critical to safe, compliant and uninterrupted operations.
To avoid businesses bearing the financial and reputational costs of supply interruptions, the report calls on boards to treat water resilience as a business continuity risk comparable to power and IT outages.
The evidence of growing business risk
The report highlights how ageing infrastructure, long-term investment gaps, increased demand from population growth and development, and increasing weather volatility are all creating an increasing risk of disruption to supply.
The impact of these disruptions is already affecting businesses – 46% of larger companies and 39% of SMEs report having faced water disruption*. Yet, despite the increasing likelihood of water-related disruption, many businesses still rely on reactive, unplanned contingency arrangements.
The cost of disruption can be significant, reaching up to £50,000 per hour for some, or far higher for water critical sites such as data centres, making preparedness an urgent leadership priority.
The solution
In response, Water Direct has launched WaterTight, an industry-first water continuity solution designed to enable organisations to respond more effectively and recover more quickly when disruption occurs – saving time, cost, and reputational damage.
WaterTight combines audited site readiness, a tailored contingency plan, reserved water capacity, and SLA-backed delivery, so critical sites can maintain minimum operations and recover faster when supply or quality incidents occur.
A practical benchmark for leadership teams: WRMI
Also launched within the report is the Water Resilience Maturity Index (WRMI) – a free self-assessment tool enabling leadership teams to benchmark preparedness, identify gaps and prioritise actions to strengthen resilience.
Adam Johnson, CEO of Water Direct said: “Water underpins UK business performance and public services. Businesses depend on clean, safe supply not only for drinking water, but to sustain safe and compliant operations. Historically the UK has enjoyed a dependable water network. However, that is changing and businesses are facing increased risk from water supply interruptions.
There’s no question that water resilience should be a core part of operational risk management, not a nice to have and preparedness must now be a key target for businesses.”
