Supporting Resilience Through Ofwat’s AMP8 Final Determination
Ofwat AMP8: Securing Water Resilience
Ofwat AMP8 Investment — a recent approval of a £104 billion investment for the 2025–2030 period (AMP8) marks a transformative leap for the water sector in England and Wales.
But as we look forward in 2025, with the dust of holiday season fanfare long since settled, there remains a lot of uncertainty, particularly in this heavy growth climate.
What’s positive is that AMP8 will be bigger than anything seen before with a greater proportion of enhancement expenditure this time round.
Nearly £12 billion of this funding is dedicated to improving and protecting the water system — from expanding supply capacity to improving drinking water quality. This proactive approach supports a more resilient water infrastructure, capable of withstanding future pressures and unexpected disruptions.
Last year, we emphasised the urgent need for increased investment to bolster resilience across the UK’s water infrastructure and secure long-term service sustainability. Ofwat’s AMP8 determination reinforces these priorities, validating earlier proposals and driving forward essential progress in infrastructure resilience.

We hope that this substantial investment will also drive further investment in AWS solutions – a cornerstone of resilience. AWS solutions are essential for bridging gaps during supply disruptions, mitigating the impact of extreme weather, and fostering a more robust and adaptive water network.
While this funding is a substantial step forward, it brings complexities that require careful navigation. Success in this evolving landscape hinges on transforming early commitments into sustained, positive actions.
At Water Direct, we look forward to collaborating with industry partners to help turn these investments into tangible improvements and contributing to a more resilient and sustainable water future.
