Water Direct Welcomes Michael Haworth to the Team

Welcome to the Water Direct team, Michael Haworth!

Company News 6 Aug 25

We’re pleased to welcome Michael Haworth as Head of Utility Partnerships. With a strong background in alternative water supply and incident response, Michael brings valuable insight and experience from the utility sector.

Michael brings extensive experience from the utility sector, most recently with United Utilities. With a deep understanding of incident response and alternative water supply, Michael is already adding valuable perspective to our work supporting critical infrastructure. We asked him to share a few thoughts as he begins his new role:

What attracted you to Water Direct after years in the utility sector?

“I’ve been involved in several major incidents affecting multiple UK water companies in recent years, which really highlighted how alternative supplies are managed across the country. I was managing United Utilities’ AWS in the Northwest and wanted to build on that experience. Having worked with Water Direct previously, I knew the scale of the work they were involved in – and that’s what really drew me in.”

Why is Water Direct’s role important for utility companies and essential services?

“With growing pressure and scrutiny on the water sector, Water Direct is in a strong position to help companies deliver their Alternative Water Supply (AWS) strategies. SEMD measures are a big focus right now, and we can play a key role in supporting greater resilience across the board.”

What’s one thing the wider industry should better understand about temporary water supply?

“The service offering available isn’t fully understood. Each water company has its own view on what’s needed – but Water Direct can help bring consistency and clarity across the UK.”

What are you most looking forward to achieving in your new role?

“Working closely with our stakeholders to enhance the excellent service we already provide. I’m keen to strengthen existing relationships and help shape a more resilient alternative supply network across the UK.”

Welcome aboard, Michael — we’re thrilled to have you with us and look forward to sharing more of your insights as you settle in to this new role.
